Frito-Lay North America, Inc. has received grant assistance through three different projects to add a wide variety of new vehicles and technologies to their fleet. Through the North Central Texas Alternative Fuel and Advanced Technologies Investments project, the company placed five heavy-duty electric vehicles and four heavy-duty compressed natural gas vehicles into service. Also, a private access electric recharging facility was built in Fort Worth.

The company was also an active participant in the SmartWay Technology Upgrade Project, made possible through an Environmental Protection Agency stimulus grant. Frito-Lay installed verified SmartWay technologies, including low rolling resistance tires on 30 tractors and side skirts on 40 trailers. These devices will help increase fuel efficiency, thus reducing petroleum consumption and emissions.
